SEX AND POLITICS COLLIDE WITH SURPRISING RESULTS
IN

A MARRIAGE
OF
CONVENIENCE

WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY NORMAN BEIM

What happens when an urbane, successful author wants to run for the Senate and happens to be gay? Advised by his PR man that his sexual identity will lead to his defeat he is persuaded to take a wife. Ironically the woman he chooses, his secretary, happens to be a lesbian, just one of the many twists and turns in A MARRIAGE OF CONVENIENCE, Norman Beim's biting comedy that spoofs sex and marriage, in addition to offering a sparkling commentary on the political scene today.

A MARRIAGE OF CONVENIENCE will preview on January 16 and open on January 18 at The Turtle's Shell Theater in Manhattan. Audiences will appreciate the irony as characters discover surprising things about themselves when they're circumstances are “conveniently” altered. And it won't take much of a political cynic to appreciate how everyone is “using” each other to comic delight.

The inconvenience of A MARRIAGE OF CONVENIENCE will be brought into sharp and humorous contrast in this production to be directed by Norman Beim, as part of The TSP Artists' Platform series. The award-winning design team includes scenic designer Ryan Scott, costume designer Whitney Locher, light and sound designer David Roy.

Norman Beim's plays have been produced nationally and internationally, including recent New York productions of JEWEL THIEVES! and FRITZ & FROYIM that garnered widespread critical acclaim. His comedy–drama, Success, ran for more than a year in The Netherlands and has been optioned for a film. Seven collections of Norman's plays have been published, including Six Award Winning Plays and My Family the Jewish Immigrants.

The TSP Artists' Platform provides playwrights with a safe haven to develop their work in partnership with a team of experienced designers and theater professionals in their home at The Turtle's Shell Theater. Artists are carefully selected and nurtured with an eye towards forging an ongoing creative collaboration.
